Glaciers

On Saturday we were part of a group of about twenty people who hiked (it was more of a glorified walk) and saw two different glaciers. It was awesome. Along the way we met four other students studying abroad in Argentina and an architect from Holland. It was interesting talking to him about the differences in our education systems and governments.

Of course, pictures of our adventure:
What's left of the Glacier Ventisquero Negro (the Black Glacier). The ice mixed with sediments to make the glacier appear black or gray.

A global-warming-is-real note: In 1942, this glacier reached all the way to the photo on the left. It has since shrunk/melted/diminished/disappeared to where it is in the photo on the right. Retreating and advancing is normal for glaciers: yes. But not like this. Not this much, this fast. There will be no advancing for this glacier. If left unchecked, global warming will cause this glacier to disappear.  Rant over.
Walking across a tree-bridge to see another glacier.

Two glaciers in one day! It was incredible.
Zoomed in.

PS. The woman from choir who told us we need to fall in love in Bariloche, was disappointed when we told her we did not find boyfriends during our trip.

PPS: Here is a NYTimes related to my global warming rant. Peru is the example in the article. After writing this post, I went to read today's news. This article was published a half an hour ago.
